Neat Ideas - Microwave Steamer Microwave Steamer
A stacking steamer with adjustable vented lid, steaming tray and steamer base. Place the prepared vegetables into the steaming tray, making sure they’re evenly distributed, and pour approximately 250cc of hot water into the base (approx 4 tbsp or enough to cover the base). The specially designed steaming tray can now be positioned on top of the base. Position the the lid and remember to open the vents before cooking.
The cooking time will vary depending on the wattage of your microwave oven and the amount of food being cooked. As a general guide steaming vegetables in this size container usually takes from 2 - 5 minutes - spinach and peas from 2 - 3 minutes and the firmer vegetables from 3 - 5 minutes. At the end of the cooking time, remove from the oven and check the contents are cooked to your liking.
For a healthier diet, fish and poultry can be cooked in exactly the same way. Place the fish fillets in the steaming tray - without overlapping. Now season to taste and, as before, add just enough hot water to cover the base. Place the steaming tray on the base and replace the lid - remembering to open the vent prior to cooking. Cooking fish and seafood usually takes from 3 - 8 minutes, but once again cooking times will vary according to quantities and the microwave manufacturer’s instructions.
Experiment with seasonings and accompaniments to add flavour and interest to the finished dishes. Leave the dish to stand with the lid vent closed for 1 minute before serving.
